The story of the Samma surname

The Sammas are one of Sindh's foundational Rajput tribes — classified by the 1907 Gazetteer of the Province of Sind as a branch of Yadav Rajputs, linking them to the ancient Yadava clan associated with Lord Krishna. At their peak, the Samma dynasty ruled Sindh for over a century (c. 1351–1521 CE), presiding over a remarkable cultural flowering — their court at Thatta was one of the great centres of Islamic and Sindhi art. Their name and lineage defined much of eastern and lower Sindh's social fabric. The Samma are a living bridge between Sindh's pre-Islamic Rajput heritage and its later Sultanate culture.
