Ramchandani

The Ramchandanis carry one of Sindh's most devotionally resonant names — from an ancestor named Ramchand, combining Ram (the divine king of the Ramayana) with Chand (moon). This dual divine name was common among devout Sindhi Hindu families. As Lohanas, the Ramchandanis belonged to the broad mercantile-agricultural community that formed the backbone of Hindu Sindhi society. After 1947, like millions of their community, they carried this name — and the memory of Sindh — across the border into a new India, keeping alive a culture that had flourished for millennia on the banks of the Indus.
