The story of the Hinduja surname

The Hindujas are one of Sindh's most globally recognised families. Their origins lie in Shikarpur — the legendary merchant city of upper Sindh whose traders financed commerce from Central Asia to the Far East in the 18th and 19th centuries. Shikarpur bankers (shroffs) had banking houses in Kabul, Bukhara, Kandahar, and Bombay simultaneously. Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja laid the foundations of today's Hinduja Group in the early 20th century. His sons Srichand, Gopichand, Prakash, and Ashok built it into a global conglomerate. The Hinduja name — literally meaning "Hindu from Hind" — became synonymous with the global Sindhi merchant spirit: resilient, entrepreneurial, and far-ranging.
