Gidwani

The Gidwanis belong to the proud Amil class — the educated, administrative elite of Sindh. Their Manchanda nukh places them within a close cousin-cluster that includes the Ajwanis, Jagtianis, Karanmalanis, and Bhavnanis — all tracing back through a common Arorvanshi Khatri ancestor. The family's historical hub was Khudabad, the former Sindhi capital, and later Hyderabad, where a neighbourhood known as Gidwani Ghitti bore their name. They served as Diwans (ministers) under both the Kalhora and Talpur Mir dynasties — the pinnacle of Hindu administrative power in pre-Partition Sindh. The name "Gidwani" itself likely derives from a place-name or ancestor, following the classic Sindhi surname pattern of ancestor's name + the suffix -ani (meaning "of the line of").
