Chugh

The Chugh surname is a good example of why this archive has to be careful. It is often described as an Arora / Khatri surname, which can look Punjabi at first glance. But Arora and Khatri histories overlap deeply with the Punjab-Sindh corridor, and some Chugh families identify through Sindhi or Sindhi-Khatri branches. A Chugh family with memory of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Karachi, Rohri, Sindhi speech, or Sindhi trading networks should be treated as a possible Sindhi branch, not dismissed as only Punjabi. The surname alone is not enough; the family town, language, nukh, and Partition route are the evidence.
