The story of the Bhavnani surname
The Bhavnanis take their name from an ancestor named Bhavandas — a name meaning "servant of the world." They are part of the tight Manchanda nukh cousin cluster that includes the Gidwanis, Ajwanis, Jagtianis, and Karanmalanis. All of these families share Arorvanshi Khatri origins and served the Amil (administrative) tradition of Sindh. The Bhavnanis, like their cousin-bradris, settled primarily in Hyderabad, the cosmopolitan capital of late Sindh, and in Larkana. After Partition in 1947, members of this community dispersed widely — to Mumbai, Delhi, and across the global Sindhi diaspora.
