The story of the Aarazi surname
The Aarazi family belongs to the Khudabadi Sonara community — a distinct and tightly endogamous group of goldsmith-bankers who trace their origins to Bhambore, near the ancient port of Debal, one of the first points of Arab contact with Sindh in 712 CE. Their Makhija nukh connects them to the broader Lohana/Bania mercantile framework. The Khudabadi Sonaras developed a unique script (Khudabadi script) and maintained meticulous clan records, making their ancestry some of the most traceable in all of Sindhi history. They were the jewellers, bullion dealers, and informal bankers of Sindh's urban economy.
